Events Celebrating
Heather

Welcome to the Heather Joy Wilson Memorial Fund. The Fund was created to give back to those organizations that gave to Heather so that they may continue to give to others.

Organizations the Fund Supports:

-- Rock Creek Forest Elementary School         Completed !!

Heather taught Reading Language Arts at RCF for 8 years. A "book nook" has been established in her name to make it easier for children to discover the fun and joy of reading books. The Fund has also purchased books to be given to students at Rock Creek Forest who are participating in a county wide reading initiative. Click Here for more details.

-- The Oncology Ward at Sibley Hospital       Completed !!

Heather was hospitalized at Sibley many times. The Fund has funded the furnishings for a new area on the Oncology floor with a microwave, refrigerator and comfortable seating for family members who spend long periods of time there, as well as the purchase of recliner chairs for patient rooms.  Click Here for more details.

-- The Children's Center at Johns Hopkins Medical Center    Completed !!

The immunology and renal departments at Johns Hopkins Medical Center saved Heather's life on several occasions. Heather received her kidney transplant  at Johns Hopkins in 1995 and spent almost four months recovering there as a patient. The Fund provided funding for a Poet In Residence program at the Hospital's Children's Center which helps school age children who are hospitalized at Johns Hopkins for long periods of time.  Click Here for more details.

-- Cabin JohnVolunteer Fire Department -  Fire Station 30      Completed !!

The Rescue Squad at Fire Station 30 helped Heather on several occasions.  The Fund has assisted the Station's renovation efforts by providing upgrades to the sleeping, living and dining facilities. Click Here for more details.

-- Montgomery County Humane Society       Completed !!

This is the shelter from which Heather adopted her wonderful dog, Coal. The shelter asked for and we provided them with a dual headed lighted microscope and 15 beds so the dogs do not have to sleep on the floor. Heather's car, which Coal loved to ride in, was donated to the Humane Society and drives were organized at both Rock Creek Forest Elementary School and The River Falls Swim Team for blankets, towels, collars, leashes and toys. MANY bags of these items have been delivered and are being used by the animals at the Shelter.
